Friday afternoon, April 1, 2016- Well, I had quite the adventure getting to the airport today… Decided to take MARTA (Metro Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority) to the airport to avoid traffic, something that I hadn’t done in a while, so I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. Basically, I can sum that experience up in about four words- Loud, Smelly, Crowded, and Crazy. Anyway, once I got that behind me we were moving right along for about 3 and half minutes… and then the TSA nightmare began. Keep in mind TSA Precheck is *allegedly* very quick and easy. Yeah, no. We stood in line for a pretty good while before getting our tickets checked, and then a bit longer before making it through.
Once we did make it past, it was smooth sailing most of the way. We made our way down to the ‘Plane Train’ and rode all the way to concourse F to try our luck with any international airlines that happened to be there. Upon arrival to F, I swiftly proceeded to sprint across the terminal to catch a Virgin Atlantic Airbus 340 in the old livery, two things we almost never get in one! Once that excitement settled, we headed to the Delta Sky ClubTM on F to catch some more departures. Much to my dismay, the outdoor patio was closed, so I was confined to staring out windows…
Once we had our fare share of internationals, we swapped to the Sky Club on concourse A for some better views. Got to see a pretty cool things from up there, including a water cannon salute for an A320; not sure what for, but it was cool to see and was a first for me.
When we left the Sky Club, we went on to our gate, A12, to board our Boeing 767-300 aircraft that would take us to Salt Lake City (SLC/KSLC). We were in zone one, so we were in the first group to board the aircraft. When we stepped in, I asked to take a picture of the cockpit, but thanks to the incredibly kind flight deck crew, I was given a full tour of the cockpit, and chatted with the first officer for a while during the time that the captain was doing walk around. I found my window seat, 15G and settled in just as the safety video was begging. As usual, Delta took a comical route with their latest, a spoof on an awards show, dubbed the “Safety’s”.
We left A12 and taxied out for a 26L departure. After waiting for the three flights in front of us to depart, it was out turn and the flight crew quickly had us speeding down the runway and lifting off into the air. It was a rough climb out, but once we reached our cruising altitude of 38,000 feet, it was very smooth most of the way.
The In-Flight Entertainment was outdated, and required a great deal of patience when using. All negativity aside however, all of the functions did indeed work, so it could have been worse.
Upon arrival in SLC, it was a speedy process getting out of the airport since we didn’t check any baggage. Overall, it was a good flight, and the crew was very nice.
