On Sunday (11/22), I arrived at the airport for my flight to Kansas City (MCI/KMCI) several hours early as usual. Right as we walked in, I noticed that the atrium area had gotten a small face lift- nothing significant, but enough to be noticeable. We proceeded to TSA Pre-check, where the lines were slightly less unbearable then they usually are. Once past all the boring stuff, we proceeded to the train that took us to concourse B, gate 23. We tried to get into the Delta Sky Club, but since we had some family with us, they wouldn’t let us all in… even though we had platinum status… Way to go Delta… Anyway, we went back down to the very overcrowded terminal. After walking the airport taking pictures for a while, it was time to board. We had a last minute gate change to B27, and right as we walked up, the first thing I noticed were three VERY. LOUD. CHILDREN. So immediately I started PRAYING that they were just sitting here, and that this was not their flight. But no. Guess who sat RIGHT behind me… sigh… anyway other than the flight attendants not doing anything about the kids who screamed at each other the ENTIRE two hour flight, everything was pretty nice. Our MD-90 was equipped with the new interior, and there was not an ounce of trash from the previous flight anywhere. Boarding was done rather quickly, and the doors were locked and we began pushback right on time. We were fourth in line for takeoff from the north side of the airport, so taxi took a while, but once it was our turn the captain did not hesitate and we were rolling down the runway within seconds. It was a beautiful day- not a cloud in the sky, so the flight was very smooth and we hardly had any problems with turbulence. After about an hour and a half we began decent into MCI. On the ground after approaching over redneckville, it becomes apparent that this airport was a little strange. All the aircraft there were relatively small… except for a Kenya Airways 777… Also, the terminal itself is not what I would call a large building. We deplaned, walked out the gate door, took about four steps and were in baggage claim. I’ll just say this- the rental car facility was bigger/nicer than the airport… However, it was pretty busy for such a little thing. Overall though it was a nice flight, and defiantly not the worst I’ve ever been on.
