Today I had the first day of a camp with Centennial Aviation Academy, and today was up, down, and all around PDK. We started the day out at the airport fire station where they have three crews each working a 24 hour shift every three days. This station is home to an engine and two crash trucks. It was cool to hear them talk about it even though I had no idea what they were talking about… Anyway, it was still cool as the station is right under the approach path. We then headed over to what used to be an airplane graveyard with planes that looked like they had not been flown in years. But they have recently fixed up that part of the ramp and removed all the planes that have not paid their dues. With all the available space, who knows what they will put in. After that we went to the Waffle House hangers, where they keep two Gulfstreams, two King Airs, and a little Beechcraft. With not much else to see we headed over to the Signature Flight Support, which is a very high-end FBO. We took a walk through the terminal and headed outside, where we were met by a Learjet and a Citation. We walked over to the grass by the runway, where we watched a Southern Airways Express Cessna 208 land, and an older Learjet take off. We then went to a catering company based at the airport, but due to security reasons, I cannot distribute any information. It was very cool though.
We were all pretty hungry by that point, so we headed over to The Downwind for lunch. They have great food and also a great view with deck seating overlooking one of the runways. When we were through eating the day culminated at the CAA building with a few classes/presentations. Overall the day was beyond cool and tomorrow we head to Hartsfield.
